Why have a Sales Booster Clinic?
When was the last time you and your colleagues spent a day focusing on sales?
One of the challenges, especially for small to medium sized organisations, is setting aside time to focus on sales.
You have the best intentions. You recognise it is something you should do.
But then things happen and the planned sales focus time gets reduced or postponed.
Effectively you are allowing reactive tasks to take precedent over proactive ones.
And it’s easy to see why.
A deadline has changed. A client issue needs fixing. The boss has had something come up that needs attending to. You are a couple of people down. Emails need responding to.
It happens.
Problem is it happens a lot which makes it easy to delay something that is about being proactive because something that is reactive needs doing.
So if you are one of those organisations that focuses on being reactive at the expense of being proactive it’s probably best you don’t consider running a Sales Booster Clinic.
A day where you bring all those involved in sales together, off-site, with phones off and a focus on your sales activity.
You look at what you are doing through challenging eyes.
What’s working?
What’s not working?
Does your sales activity need re-energising?
Where are the sales opportunities – particularly from existing customers?
How can sales momentum be created?
What do you need to do differently?
If your sales are tough then be proactive.
Organise your own Sales Booster Clinic Day
And here to help you are the keys to a successful Sales Booster Clinic Day:
- Make it in-person
- Give all those who need to be there four weeks notice
- Plan out the day and distribute in advance – but don’t use ‘agenda’ or it sounds like just another meeting
- Ideally get off-site so you minimise distractions
- Make it clear that everyone’s contribution is key
- Appoint someone to run it – ideally not the MD or Sales Director – and verbally keep summarising all ideas and check everyone sees them that way
- And appoint someone to take notes, plot ideas, etc…so nothing is missed
- Use a transformation grid to identify and plot changes
- At the end summarise your intentions and agree the 3 things as a team you are going to focus on implementing – any more than 3 and the danger is nothing happens
- Finally agree a timescale for the plan implementation and interim check in dates to monitor progress
Whoever heads up sales then needs to stay on top of what you have agreed to make sure it happens
Any organisation is capable of doing the above so why bring in someone like me to run it?
Firstly hiring someone in ensures it happens. No last minute postponements for reactive reasons.
Secondly a good external facilitator will ensure everyone’s voice, thoughts and ideas are heard. They will also ensure the day stays on schedule and discussions aren’t sidetracked.
Thirdly they will ensure the day ends with an agreement on what’s going to happen and when.
